Anthony James was born and raised in Mobile, Alabama. Being the son of a preacher man, church was mandatory. This is where his musical career began. While in college, A.J. began experimenting with different types of music, performing with groups, as well as landing various recording studio gigs. From there, he began touring with such acts as Menudo and Average Joe. In 1997, he was instrumental in forming the band “11 Red Apples”, which went on to create a significant following throughout Alabama and southern Georgia. In 2000, the band won the Orlando Music Award for Best Funk and R & B band and a People’s Music Award for Best Improvisational Funk Band. They were nominated for a Source Award and performed for a huge audience while opening for Run DMC. He moved to Orlando, Florida after being offered steady work at ‘City Walk Orlando’. While there, he continued to write and perform original material to the masses. Later, he signed a deal that brought him to Los Angeles. Eventually, in 2007, A.J. was offered a gig in Las Vegas where he now resides. In 2010, he formed the improv funk jam group, ‘The Funk’, which has greatly impacted the jam band scene in Las Vegas. |
